Santa Isabel Dart Frogs

Our group of poison dart frogs are our smallest species of frog currently at the sanctuary. The group we have are a group of three Santa Isabel Dart Frogs that are known for their red coloration and white stripes.

Santa Isabel Dart Frogs

This particular group of dart frogs was actually bred by one of our interns and donated to the sanctuary in April of 2024. This particular group of dart frogs is from a line that slowly reveals a white dot on their nose as they age.

While in the sanctuary, we use them as an example to teach about the fact that these frogs are not actually poisonous in captivity, and the oils from our hands that they can intake through their skin are actually more toxic to them than they are to us! They are one of the few communal species we have at the sanctuary, and can often be seen hunting flies in their enclosure.

If fragile species are your jam, these guys are the perfect species for you! While they are small, they can almost always be spotted in their enclosure due to their coloration and habits.
