Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches

Our colony of Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches may not seem like much, but they teach many lessons about the insect world through their actions and body structure! For example, despite their hissing habits, insects like these don’t have lungs!

Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches

Way back in August of 2022 our first Hissing Cockroaches came to the sanctuary and they have been flourishing ever since! As our largest insects in the sanctuary, they help us to teach about the wonderful world of insects and all of the creepy crawly cases within it!

While we have far too many to name, we do still love to interact with them and teach about the famous hiss for which they get their name. Nowadays, most of our cockroaches no longer hiss because they know we aren’t a threat to them or their environment.

If insects of all varieties are your jam, consider supporting these critters as ambassadors! While they may not be the most glamorous critters, meeting them and learning more about them is a great way to ease any shivers they send down your spine!
