Hiccup and Astrid - Red Eyed Crocodile Skinks
Hiccup and Astrid are a pair of Red Eyed Crocodile Skinks that will hopefully produce eggs in the future! While these animals look large and in charge, they are actually only a few inches long, and this means that they are not much for handling!

This pair was surrendered as an educational breeding project in October of 2024 by a loving home that was very sad to see them go. In light of this, they are not handled often, but are hopefully going to be able to produce more of this species that is not readily bred in captivity yet. This way we can help reduce impacts on native populations.
Hiccup and Astrid are named after the pair of protagonists from How To Train Your Dragon due to their resemblance to Toothless the dragon from the movie. This species, as the name suggests, has crocodilian-like osteoderms down their back and red eyes.
If you’d like to support an ethical captive breeding project or are fascinated by these gnarly critters due to their extravagant features, they would benefit from your sponsorship! Due to their uncommonness, we are very lucky to get to work with them!
